Latest Lymphoma Research

Lymphoma treatment is advancing every year and it is only due to intense research that this can happen. There are numerous large research facilities around the world that concentrate specifically on lymphoma and as a result the condition is becoming easier to detect and more successfully treated. People can continue to lead normal lives while receiving treatment and this has helped thousands of sufferers to keep their faith and beat their condition.

Unfortunately many of the research facilities require continuous funding to stay in business but luckily there are a number of international companies that are willing to provide such funding. The Lymphoma Research Foundation (LRF) has recently secured three years worth of funding so that they can develop new and better treatments and therapies for a specific type of the disease; that is follicular lymphoma. This is a particularly aggressive form of lymphoma that has lower survival rates than some of the other forms and so any research into it is going to be beneficial. In addition to follicular lymphoma, the foundation has also secured enough funding to develop new strategies in the treatment of two other forms of lymphoma; small and chronic lymphocytic lymphoma. Hopefully researchers at the facility will be able to develop new drugs that interact with cancerous cells more powerfully and kill them a lot quicker and more successfully than present treatments do.

Stem cell research is also a huge area of importance with regards to lymphoma and luckily there is plenty of funding available to continue this type of work. Stem cells are the body's primary cells that haven't as yet differentiated into a specific type of cells e.g. a blood cell or a liver cell etc. This means that an individual's stem cells can be manipulated outside the body and then be reintroduced so that they can work against cancerous lymphocytes or indeed any cancerous cells. This type of research is still relatively new however it does show a lot of promise and the next few years will be crucial with regards to continuous funding.

Although lymphoma is a relatively rare form of cancer, the number of people who die from it each year is steadily growing and cancer in general is possibly the largest cause of death around the world. It is imperative that research into this deadly disease continues and that new and better treatments are developed. Other research is looking for a vaccine to lymphoma and although it is slow in progressing it is progressing nevertheless.

Unfortunately cancer cells, and especially lymphoma cells, have a tendency to continually mutate so that any treatments that are effective in a patient this year may not be as effective in a newly diagnosed patient next year or the year after. This is why research must continue unabated and the funding must continue to come. Many governments don't contribute to medical research facilities and so most rely on donations and fundraising activities. Thus you may wish to join in a sponsored event for a cancer research facility so that their invaluable work can continue - you never know when you may need it after all.
